Goal of treatment: to replace the large loss in the upper left corner of the drawing

This painting is owned by a private client. The priority of this treatment was to fill the large corner loss while

preserving the integrity of the work and maintaining a distinction between the artist's and conservator’s hands. To

achieve this, I created an inpainted fill with its own kozo paper hinge, so that it could be mounted next to the drawing

using T- or V-hinges. This work was done under the supervision of paper conservator Ewa Paul.

  • Create a fill using a board comparable to the original support, and shave the edge flush with the tear shelf.

  • Inpaint the fill, reconstructing the missing design

  • Apply Japanese hinges to the verso of the artwork so the fill can be reversibly mounted next to the object.
